MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The 2008 TranSouth Athletic Conference post season awards were announced on Monday night in a ceremony during opening round action at the TranSouth Baseball Tournament. Eleven Trevecca players earned 13 honors this season. Cody Heggie was named first-team All-Conference as first baseman. Chris Lowe and Marty Parks were named first team All-Conference as outfielders. Brian Dirheimer was named first-team All-Conference as designated hitter. Nick Shoup was named first team All-Conference as a starting pitcher and Steven Brown was named first team All-Conference as a relief pitcher.
Making the second team All-Conference were Brett Thaler (catcher), Dylan Lynch (third base), Wade Angel (outfield), and Wesley Griggs (pitcher).
Lynch made the All-Conference Gold Glove Team for the second year in a row. Joining him on the team for the first time were Thaler and Aaron Bree.
Heggie, a 6’2” junior from Clarksville, Tenn., produced a .358 batting average with 18 doubles, five triples, six home runs and 41 RBI.
Lowe, a 6’0” junior from Goodlettsville, Tenn., hit .372 with 37 runs scored, five doubles, three triples, two home runs, 29 RBI and is 14 of 18 in stolen base attempts.
Parks, a 5’10” junior from Richmond, Ky., leads the team with 19 stolen bases in 20 attempts. He hits .344 with 47 runs scored, 11 doubles, three triples, 33 RBI, and five home runs.
Dirheimer, a 6’2” junior from Hamilton, Ohio, leads the team with a .370 batting average and 11 home runs. He has 40 RBI, 13 doubles, and 20 runs scored.
Shoup, a 6’6” junior from Westminster, Calif., has an 8-2 record and 57 strike outs in 69.2 innings pitched entering postseason play. He has a 3.36 ERA with three complete games and one shutout.
Brown, a 6’4” senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., set the TNU season and career saves record. He has eight saves this season with a 3.22 ERA. In 22.1 innings pitched he has struck out 18 opponents.
Thaler, a 5’10” senior from Middletown, N.J., is hitting .308 with six doubles and 10 RBI. Thaler has thrown out 10 of 14 runners attempting to steal on him. He hasn’t had an error in 174 chances and has 31 assists.
Lynch, a 6’0” senior from Nashville, Tenn., is hitting .364 with 35 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 32 RBI. He has just three errors in 80 chances at the hot corner.
Angel, a 6’0” senior from Portland, Tenn., has 24 runs, four doubles, three triples, three home runs, 25 RBI, a .341 batting average and has been successful on 14 of 15 stolen base attempts.
Griggs, a 6’1” junior from Cookeville, Tenn., leads the team with a 3.04 ERA and a 9-2 record. He has two complete game shutouts this season and has 53 strike outs in 62.1 innings pitched.
Bree, a 5’10” junior from San Diego, Calif., in 172 chances at short stop he has committed just six errors. He has 65 put outs, helped turn 19 double plays, and has 101 assists.
