BASEBALL: Eight Get Region HonorsLEBANON, Tenn. – The 2008 NAIA Region XI post season awards were announced on Wednesday during action at the NAIa Region XI Baseball Tournament. Five Trevecca players earned made the All-Region team and three were named to the Rawlings Region XI Gold Glove team.
Cody Heggie, Chris Lowe, Marty Parks, Steven Brown, and Brian Dirheimer all made the All-Region Team. Making the gold glove team were Dylan Lynch (for the second time), Aaron Bree, and Brett Thaler.
Heggie, a 6’2” junior from Clarksville, Tenn., has produced a .342 batting average with 22 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 46 RBI. Lowe, a 6’0” junior from Goodlettsville, Tenn., is hitting .341 with 40 runs scored, five doubles, three triples, two home runs, 31 RBI and is 15 of 19 in stolen base attempts. Parks, a 5’10” junior from Richmond, Ky., leads the team with 23 stolen bases in 24 attempts. He hits .335 with 56 runs scored, 13 doubles, three triples, 34 RBI, and five home runs. Dirheimer, a 6’2” junior from Hamilton, Ohio, leads the team with a .362 batting average and 11 home runs. He has 47 RBI, 13 doubles, and 22 runs scored. Brown, a 6’4” senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., set the TNU season and career saves record. He has nine saves this season with a 3.00 ERA. In 24.0 innings pitched he has struck out 21 opponents. Thaler, a 5’10” senior from Middletown, N.J., is hitting .295 with seven doubles and 10 RBI. Thaler has thrown out 10 of 14 runners attempting to steal on him. He hasn’t had an error in 206 chances and has 34 assists. Lynch, a 6’0” senior from Nashville, Tenn., is hitting .352 with 36 runs, 14 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 36 RBI. He has just four errors in 92 chances at the hot corner. Bree, a 5’10” junior from San Diego, Calif., in 196 chances at short stop he has committed just seven errors. He has 70 put outs, helped turn 22 double plays, and has 119 assists. He is hitting .329 on the year with 34 runs scored, 22 doubles, three triples, and two home runs, and 34 RBI.
