NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca Nazarene University head men’s basketball coach Sam Harris announced the transfer of Matt Smigielski from NCAA Division I High Point University (N.C.). He red-shirted in his first year at HPU and will have four years of eligibility when he begins play for the Trojans beginning in the fall of 2008.

Smigielski, a 6'3", shooting guard from Smyrna, Tenn., joins the TNU program following a stellar prep career at LaVergne High School. He averaged 15.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game during his senior season (2006-2007) while also connecting on 47 percent of his three-point tries and shooting 84 percent from the free throw line. A two-time All-District and All-Region performer, Smigielski was named to the District All-Tournament team and District 9AAA MVP this year. He finished his prep career with 1,145 points and led LHS to a 102-23 record during his four-year varsity career.

“Matt is a great fit for our system at Trevecca,” Harris said. “His toughness on the boards will fit into our style of play. He is a tremendous shooter we've seen a work ethic that is contagious. In addition to his solid playing skills, Matt is an outstanding student will represent us well in the classroom. We look forward to four great years of having Matt in our program and on our campus.”
