October 27-January 3, 2010
Nashville Children's Theatre (NCT) will present Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, beginning October 27 and running through January 3, 2010. Alexander knows it is going to be a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day when he wakes up with gum in his hair, and he is right! Things only get worse as the day goes on: his best friend bails on him, there's no dessert in his lunch bag, there's lima beans for dinner and kissing on TV! The only reasonable response is to move to Australia. Judith Viorst adapted her own award-winning children's book into a marvelous musical that is wacky, wild, and wonderfully wise! With music by Shelly Markham, this show is sure to please kids of all ages. Sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day opens Tuesday, October 27 at 6:30 PM and weekend performances are scheduled throughout the production. A full schedule for Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is available online. All performances are open to the public, and reservations are recommended. Individual ticket prices are $12 per child (ages 2 to 17), and $17 per adult. Season subscriptions and group discounts are also available. The Treatre Department at Trevecca Nazarene University will present Seussical, the Broadway family musical based on the works of Dr. Seuss, on October 29, 30, 31 and November 5, 6, 7. Seussical is the Broadway family musical phenomenon that has lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big imagination–– Jojo. In the outlandish spirit of other classics such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Phantom Tollbooth, Trevecca’s quirky interpretation of Seuss’s stories transports children of all ages through song and dance, from the deepest Jungle of Nool to the odd Circus McGurkus to the microscopic world of the Whos. From the infectious opening song, "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think," the child in you will cheer for Seuss’s celebration of the imagination and for his colorful characters who remind us of perhaps his most important lesson—don’t ever give up, for the reward is great to those who are “faithful, one hundred percent.”  For information about tickets, reservations, and group rates, call 615-248-1429 or 615-248-1370.

January  28-February 6
The Treatre Department at Trevecca Nazarene University will present The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams on January 28, 29, 30 and February 4, 5, 6. One of Tennessee Williams’s most famous and most powerful plays (and his most patently autobiographical), The Glass Menagerie unfolds in the 1930s from the memory and voice of Tom Wingfield, who lives in poverty in a dingy St. Louis apartment with his mother, Amanda, and his crippled sister, Laura. Although Amanda Wingfield strives to give meaning and direction to her life and to the lives of her children, her own anxieties and illusions, over time, only aggravate her tender, but deteriorating relationships with Tom and Laura. Williams’s poignant masterpiece, centering on an isolated family navigating the murky terrain between reality and illusion in order to cope and endure, throws into sharp relief some of life’s most challenging questions about self-preservation, sacrificial love, and finding hope for a meaningful future.  For information about tickets, reservations, and group rates, call 615-248-1429 or 615-248-1370.

Three ballets will be performed: Filling Station, a rare comedic marvel which follows the lively activities of a busy day at the filling station. Enjoy the antics of some of the madcap customers who prance in and out of the station; Awaiting Redemption, a raw, melancholy, introspective look at love, real life and coming to terms with the wisdom that comes with age; Who Cares?, this gem of a ballet showcases the golden age of Broadway with the unforgettable music of George Gershwin, featuring some of his best known hits such as “I Got Rhythm,” “Strike Up the Band,” and “Embraceable You.” For more information, visit www.nashvilleballet.com.
March 18-26
The Treatre Department at Trevecca Nazarene University will present On the Verge, a "modern" comedy by Eric Overmyer, March 18, 19, 20 and 25, 26, 27. From the heart of Africa to the highest Himalayas to Terra Incognita itself, Overmyer’s outrageous, “modern” comedy, On the Verge, plunges his audience into the chimerical adventure of three intrepid Victorian lady explorers who have embarked upon a most unusual journey. Equipped with dialogue as pithy as their helmets, these “sister sojourners” discover more than just the secrets of the rainforest or the dangers of the craggy heights. Their mirthful safari unexpectedly spins them into a kaleidoscopic, mind-bending jaunt from the 19th century into the 20th, encountering along the way hundreds of artifacts from the not-so-distant future. Overmyers’ hilarious multi-media continuum of space, time, history, geography, feminism, fashion, and pop-culture rounds off TNU’s theatre season with a roar. For information about tickets, reservations, and group rates, call 615-248-1429 or 615-248-1370.

One of Shakespeare’s favorite comedies comes to life in Nashville Ballet’s new and original adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. As Puck plays tricks on the ill-fated lovers, you will laugh as the antics of the night become resolved by the light of the day. The costumes and sets are being designed by the talented team that created our new Nutcracker, including choreographer Paul Vasterling, and designer Campbell Baird. This premiere is the perfect finale to a diverse and breathtaking season. For more information, visit www.nashvilleballet.com.
